Hayseed Dixie
This enjoyable US "rockgrass" band made their name in 2001, releasing an album comprised of bluegrass version of songs from the back catalogue of Australian heavy metal band AC/DC. The creation of four experienced musicians, Barley Scotch (b. John Wheeler; fiddle), Don Wayne Reno (banjo), Dale Reno (mandolin) and Jason D. Smith (bass), the idea for Hayseed Dixie came about when Wheeler played the other band members his bluegrass interpretation of AC/DC's "Highway To Hell". The Dualtone label released the resulting A Hillbilly Tribute To AC/DC in 2001, by which time the quartet had already established themselves as a hugely entertaining draw on the international live circuit. The following year's A Hillbilly Tribute To Mountain Love featured interpretations of eight rock classics, including Aerosmith's "Walk This Way", Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls" and Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever", alongside two throwaway band originals.
