Rodney Atkins
b. 28 March 1969, Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. This country singer-songwriter negotiated a long and rocky path to the top of the mountain, battling childhood illness and recording problems before breaking through in the early 00s. Raised in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, Atkins had already moved through a series of foster parents and suffered a string of serious illnesses before beginning his education. By the time he reached high school his ailments had lifted and he began to take a keen interest in music. After learning the guitar he played throughout high school and college, and by his late teens had established a solid reputation as a new country performer on the Nashville circuit.
