3rd Strike
This Los Angeles, California, USA-based rap-metal band was formed in the mid-90s by Jim Korthe (vocals) and Todd Deguchi (guitar). An early line-up of the band disintegrated because of Korthe's ongoing involvement with the Los Angeles gang scene, but Deguchi persuaded his friend to give music another go by encouraging him to write new material. Teaming up with Gabe Hammersmith (bass), PJ McMullan (drums) and Erik Carlsson (guitar), Korthe and Deguchi finally made their breakthrough when their demo attracted the attention of Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge. The quintet landed several prominent support slots while completing work on their Hollywood Records debut, Lost Angel. Released in May 2002, the ferocity of the music on the album was matched by lyrics informed by Korthe's violent past.
