Pilar Montenegro
b. Mar¡a del Pilar Montenegro L¢pez, Mexico. This dancer, choreographer and vocalist's innocuous take on Mexican pop is curiously popular. Abbreviating her name, Montenegro is the first and only Latin artist to hold the number 1 position on Billboard magazine's Hot Latin Tracks chart for 11 consecutive weeks with her hit, "Qu¡tame Ese Hombre", (originally recorded a decade earlier by Puerto Rican singer Yolandita Monge). At the same newsweekly's 2003 awards she received several other honours, and was also the first artist in the history of the Nuestro a la Musica Latina awards to win the Song Of The Year in both the Pop and Regional Mexican categories. Perhaps revealingly, the singer was also named on People magazine's list of the most beautiful Latina women.
