Kevin Denney
b. 27 January 1976, Monticello, Kentucky, USA. As a young teenager Denney played bluegrass music in a band with cousins Clyde and Marie Denney and at 18 was inspired by hearing George Strait live in concert to turn to country music not only as a format but also as a career. At the end of his teenage years he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he managed to secure a deal as a songwriter. In the early 00s, he signed with Lyric Street Records and made his debut album, from which a single, "That's Just Jessie", became very popular owing to extensive airplay. Other popular tracks from his debut album, some of which also did well independently, are "Cadillac Tears", "It Don't Matter", "Daddy Was A Navy Man" and "It'll Go Away". Stylistically, Denney is on the pop end of the contemporary country range, his songs appealing to those who like fresh-sounding music but are not necessarily hardcore country fans. Even so, there is in his approach sufficient awareness of the traditions of country music to avert alienating the mass audience.
