This rap supergroup owes its existence on record to the phenomenal sales success of Outkast's 2000 recording, Stankonia. Andre Benjamin and Antoine Patton's label boss, L.A. Reid, gave them the permission to record an album with some of the leading artists on the Atlanta, Georgia rap scene, including members of Goodie Mob and the Organized Noize production team. Lesser known collaborators included Witchdoctor and Backbone. All the artists had worked with each other during the previous decade, but never managed to put out a record together. Drawing inspiration from George Clinton's work with the Funkadelic and Parliament collectives, Even In Darkness maintained a fearsome party groove over the course of its 14 tracks. The album confirmed Atlanta as one of the creative epicentres of hip-hop at the start of the new millennium.
