Flaw
This Louisville, Kentucky, USA-based alt-metal band was originally formed in 1996, when singer Chris Volz answered an advertisement in a local paper, and hooked up with guitarist Jason Daunt. Although it took a while for the duo to share their same interest in intense practice and little extracurricular activity with other musicians, Volz and Daunt eventually found a suitable bass player in the form of Ryan Jurhs, who was fresh out of the US Marines. With other ultimately temporary musicians filling in, Flaw recorded an independently released eight-song debut in 1997, American Arrogance. Interestingly, the album cost the band nothing to make, as they bought all the recording equipment knowing that there was a 30-day return policy if not satisfied, which they utilized after wrapping up the sessions. Opening local shows for national acts such as Fear Factory and Econoline Crush helped expand their already growing fanbase. Two additional indie releases were issued as well, 1998's self-titled sophomore effort and 2000's Drama EP, during which Flaw's line-up was solidified with members Chris Ballinger (drums) and Lance Arny (guitar). With Arny onboard, Flaw's sound became slightly more atmospheric, as both guitarists played seven-string instruments, … la Korn and Limp Bizkit.
