Cyndi Thomson
b. 19 October 1976, Tifton, Georgia, USA. One of the new generation of female country singer-songwriters to emerge in the new millennium, Thomson enjoyed immediate success when her single "What I Really Meant To Say" topped the US country charts. Thomson, like many country artists before her, learned to sing as a member of her church choir. She left rural Georgia to study music at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. The photogenic Thomson took work as a part-time model, but also teamed up with songwriter Tommy Lee James in an attempt to launch her music career. After signing a recording contract with Capitol Records in the late 90s, Thomson and James began work on the singer's debut album with Dixie Chicks producer Paul Worley. My World was released in July 2001. This quality collection of country-pop material was buoyed by the chart-topping success of "What I Really Meant To Say", and Thomson's appearance on the bestselling Girls Night Out tour. In October 2002, the singer announced she was walking away from her recording and touring career, although she planned to continue writing songs.
