Shannon McNally
b. Hempstead, Long Island, New York, USA. Singer-songwriter McNally made her debut in early 2002 with Jukebox Sparrows, a roots rock-orientated collection that drew inevitable comparisons to Sheryl Crow and Shelby Lynne. Of Irish, German and Iroquois descent, McNally grew up in Long Island and attended Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor's degree in anthropology. She relocated to California in the early 90s where she began performing and eventually signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in 1997. Enlisting seasoned musicians such as drummer Jim Keltner and keyboard player Benmont Tench, McNally completed work on her debut album but was then forced to watch her label delay its release. The sessions for Jukebox Sparrows had been overshadowed by her label's failed attempt to market McNally as an angst rocker in the mould of Alanis Morissette. During the delay, McNally found work as a model for Urban Decay cosmetics. Jukebox Sparrows was eventually released in January 2002, with the single "Now That I Know" gaining extensive radio play.
