Kristine W
b. Kristine Weitz, Pasco, Washington, USA. A veteran of the European dance music scene, Kristine W. first came to prominence in 1994 when Mel Medalie, the head of UK label Champion Records, saw her perform in Las Vegas as a lounge act while attending the Lennox Lewis boxing match. He invited her to the UK to work alongside the producer Rollo, which partnership resulted in such songs as "Feel What You Want" and "One More Try". When released as white label 12-inches both were immensely popular, leading to a bidding war among US labels. Eventually she signed with EastWest Records, who brokered a production/distribution deal with Champion. Although "Feel What You Want" was a major US club hit, the impetus of her career was hampered when EastWest and Champion severed their deal in 1995 and the projected US release of "One More Try" fell victim to these machinations. Eventually she signed a new deal with RCA Records for whom she recorded the album Land Of The Living, which included both singles.
