Nikka Costa
b. Domenica Costa, 4 June 1972, Tokyo, Japan. Like Alanis Morissette, Costa started out as a young bubblegum pop singer, before transforming herself into a more serious artist by her early twenties. Raised in Los Angeles, California, Nikka is the daughter of Don Costa, a renowned and respected record producer. When Nikka expressed interest to her father about becoming a pop singer, he landed the youngster a recording contract, albeit one outside America. Her 1981 self-titled debut became a sizeable hit in Europe, Israel, South America, and Central America. The same year, she lent her vocals to a recording by Frank Sinatra, "To Love A Child", for then-First Lady Nancy Reagan's To Love A Child Foundation (the duo even performed the song on the front lawn of the White House). Nikka released a second album in 1983, Fairy Tales, but her father died in January of the same year. As a result, his daughter's music career quickly came to a standstill.
