Deconstructionist trash-rock act Pussy Galore is noteworthy if for no other reason than the bands that it would eventually spawn--Boss Hog, Free Kitten, the Royal Trux, and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, among others. Formed by the latter act's titular corpse-of-Elvis frontman in the early 1980s, Pussy Galore were about as offensive, aggressive, and inaccessible as a band that professed a love of the Rolling Stones could get. Nonetheless, Spencer and company's clanging no-fi sound and its slaying of one rock-&-roll sacred cow after another represented a fearless interpretation of punk, one that influenced many a band to follow in its twisted wake.
