American Hi-Fi
This slick alternative rock outfit was formed in 1999 by members of several leading US bands. Stacy Jones (b. 19 December 1970, USA) played drums with both Letters To Cleo and Veruca Salt, but switched to guitar and vocals for this new venture. Guitarist Jamie Arentzen was formerly a member of Sky Heroes, bass player Drew Parsons played with Tracy Bonham's band, and drummer Brian Nolan came from Fig Dish. Originally known as BMX Girl, the quartet signed to Island Records and decamped to Maui to record their debut album with producer Bob Rock. Despite the pedigree of the players involved, the end product of their debut was disappointing and all too familiar in a marketplace already saturated by mediocre hard rock bands. They have however, maintained and built a loyal following with subsequent albums.
