Sarina Paris
b. Canada. Surrounded by Italian music as a youngster (her parents were both immigrants from Italy), Paris' introduction to modern pop music came in the form of Lionel Richie's 1983 release, Can't Slow Down, but it was Whitney Houston that inspired the youngster to take up singing herself. During the mid-90s, Paris accepted a trip to her parents' native country, where she taught a group of children how to sing in English (called the Gam Gam Project). During her stay there, Paris began performing regularly, which peaked the interest of an A&R representative from EMI Italy. A contract with the Portrait label soon followed, as did a debut, "Look At Us", that became a substantial hit in dance clubs throughout the world during the early twenty-first century. With the single still causing a stir on the charts, Paris re-entered the studio to work on a debut album. Sarina Paris followed in 2001, an album that saw the singer co-write nine of the 13 tracks, and included a cover version of Cyndi Lauper's 80s hit, "True Colors".
