The Icarus Line
Part hardcore, part heavy metal, and part alternative rock, the original line-up of this Los Angeles, California, USA-based quintet comprised Joe Cardamone (vocals), Alvin DeGuzman (guitar), Aaron North (guitar), Lance Arnao (bass), and Aaron Austin (drums). Cardamone and DeGuzman first began playing together in the fifth grade, initially inspired by renowned Seattle acts such as Nirvana and Mudhoney. By the time they reached high school, the duo had discovered classic 80s punk/hardcore outfits such as Black Flag and the Descendents, and they sought to form a band in a similar musical vein. By 1996, a five-man line-up was assembled under the name Kanker Sores, as they began playing out regularly throughout California. The band was just about to issue a split seven-inch single when their drummer died in a car accident, and the remaining members decided to disband.
