Nina Gordon
b. Nina Rachel Shapiro Gordon, 14 November 1967, USA. Gordon made her initial mark on the music scene in the mid-90s as guitarist and joint singer-songwriter with post-grunge favourites Veruca Salt, and was responsible for writing the band's two biggest US hits, "Seether" and "Volcano Girls". She left Veruca Salt in 1998 shortly after the release of their second album Eight Arms To Hold You, amid whispers of a breakdown in her working relationship with co-songwriter Louise Post. Gordon guested on James Iha's solo album Let It Come Down and then worked on the writing and recording of her debut album. Warner Brothers Records released Tonight And The Rest Of My Life in 2000, having picked up Gordon after she was left in record company limbo when her original label Outpost Records folded after a merger. The album was a departure from the Veruca Salt sound and recast Gordon as a polished alt pop singer-songwriter. Despite receiving a positive critical reception, however, the album was not a great commercial success.
