Koop
Koop centres around two Swedish musicians, Magnus Zingmark and Oscar Simonsson, who both originate from the university town of Uppsala. Forming in 1995, they took their name from the Swedish word for co-operation and relocated to Stockholm to begin recording together. There, they complemented their twenty-first century take on smooth jazz with a number of instrumental collaborators and vocalists. Like Austria's Kruder And Dorfmeister (who, along with Jazzanova are among Koop's admirers), they occasionally furnish their contemporary sound with influences taken from more traditional musical forms. Their range of influences encompasses artists as diverse as John Coltrane and Public Enemy, through early Chicago house and later Detroit techno.
