Trevor Rabin
b. 1955, South Africa. Trevor Rabin learned classical piano and guitar from an early age, forming his first band, Rabbit, when he was aged only 14. Rabbit were a short-lived teenybop sensation in South Africa during the early 70s, releasing two albums that attained gold status. Moving to England in 1977, he signed to Chrysalis Records and polished up some demos he had previously recorded in South Africa for release as his first solo album. This featured a mixture of styles, and included jazz, rock, blues and AOR numbers. Future releases pursued a more mainstream melodic rock approach, with Wolf, released in 1981, being his tour de force. He also ventured into production with Wild Horses and Manfred Mann. He accepted the invitation to join Yes in 1983, and it was not until there was a major conflict in this camp that he managed to find enough time to record another solo effort. Can't Look Away, surfacing in 1989, had more in common with Yes than with his previous solo work. In 1990 he contributed to Seal's big-selling debut album. A number of his musical soundbites have been used by Apple the computer company.
