Tim Hagans/Bob Belden
b. 19 August 1954, Dayton, Ohio, USA. After completing extensive formal studies at Bowling Green State University, Ohio, Hagans secured his first important professional engagement in 1974 when he joined the trumpet section of Stan Kenton's band. He remained with Kenton for a little over two years, touring, recording and teaching at the Kenton Summer Clinics. He then had a brief spell with Woody Herman before settling in Sweden. During the next few years he worked with other expatriates, including Thad Jones, Ernie Wilkins and Sahib Shihab, played in the Swedish and Danish Radio big bands, and also led his own small group which appeared at clubs and festivals. While in Sweden he continued to teach, working at various establishments including the University of Lund and the Jazz Institute of Malm” where he taught trumpet, improvisation and ensemble playing.
