SR-71
The Baltimore, Maryland, USA-based outfit, SR-71, straddles the line between popular early twenty-first century, radio-friendly musical styles such as pop punk and alt pop. The band was originally formed during the late 90s, after a pair of co-workers, vocalist/guitarist Mitch Allan and bass player Jeff Reid (d. June 2004), realized that they shared similar musical tastes, and began jamming together. Originally going by the name Honor Among Thieves, the band eventually changed their moniker to SR-71 (the name of the fastest aeroplane ever built) after guitarist Mark Beauchemin and drummer Dan Garvin signed on. Soon afterwards, the quartet issued a self-distributed debut recording, called Grow. They continued demoing new material, which eventually caught the attention of RCA Records, who signed the band to a recording contract in 1998. The resulting album, Now You See Inside, was recorded equally in upstate New York and London, England, and finally saw the light of day in 2000. Before sessions could begin for a sophomore effort, Garvin left the band, and was replaced with newcomer John Allen. The new SR-71 line-up debuted in 2002 with Tomorrow featuring the stunning opening track "They All Fall Down".
