Bob & Doug McKenzie
Bob and Doug McKenzie were actually pseudonyms for comedians Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis, two Canadians who gained fame on the popular SCTV television programme in the USA. They left their mark in the music world with the 1982 single "Take Off", which reached the Top 20 in the US, and Great White North, which made the Top 10. Thomas, a former scriptwriter for the Canadian Broadcasting Company, and Moranis, a comedy writer, actor, stand-up comic, included a routine on the television show in which they parodied Canadians. In 1982, they recorded the Great White North based on their characters, and it became a hit. The single featured Geddy Lee of Rush on vocals; the pair never charted again after their initial success. However, Moranis went on to greater success, as an actor who starred in films including Ghostbusters, Parenthood, and Honey I Shrunk The Kids.
