Mud
Originally formed in 1966 from the ashes of UK skiffle outfit the Mourners, this lightweight pop band comprised Les Gray (b. Thomas Leslie Gray, 9 April 1946, Carshalton, Surrey, England, d. 21 February 2004, Portugal; vocals), Dave Mount (b. David George Mount, 3 March 1947, Carshalton, Surrey, England, d. 2 December 2006, Carshalton, Surrey, England; drums/vocals), Ray Stiles (b. Raymond John Stiles, 20 November 1946, Guildford, Surrey, England; bass guitar/vocals) and Rob Davis (b. 1 October 1947, Carshalton, Surrey, England; lead guitar/vocals). Their debut single for CBS Records, 1967's "Flower Power", was unsuccessful but they continued touring for several years. The band's easy-going pop style made them natural contenders for appearances on The Basil Brush Show, but still the hits were not forthcoming.
