Major Harris
b. 9 February 1947, Richmond, Virginia, USA. A former member of several groups, including the Jarmels, Harris joined the Delfonics in 1971, where he remained for three years. On his departure the singer inaugurated the Major Harris Boogie Blues Band with Allison Hobbs, Phyllis Newman and Karen Dempsey, but it was as a solo act for Atlantic Records that he found success. "Love Won't Let Me Wait" (1975), an R&B chart hit and US pop Top 5, was notorious for the impassioned groans of a female accompanist. Harris enjoyed further success with "I Got Over Love" and "Jealousy", but his career faltered until 1983, when "All My Life" was a minor R&B hit. In the late 80s, Major returned to the reactivated Delfonics line-up.
