Pleasure
The creation of Norwegian musician Fred Ball, who grew up in the small town of Fredrikstad near the Swedish border before relocating to London, England in the late 90s. Ball states his early musical influences as Boney M., Kiss, Prince, Michael Jackson and more unusually Yes and ELO, and listening to Pleasure's 2003 self-titled debut album elements of these artists can be heard in abundance, from thumping bass to electro squiggles right through to amazing synth solos. Ball even got Doctor Fink, who performed on most of Prince's classic albums in the 80s, to do a solo on the final track, "The Visionary". He went even further in assembling star names not readily assimilated with his take on electro pop. On "Don't Look The Other Way", the lead vocals were sublimely delivered by Britpop singer Justine Frischmann (Elastica), her voice tweaked to fit in with the silky electro groove. Another quite astounding collaboration with Cerys Matthews (ex-lead singer of Catatonia) on the folk-tinged "Stories', led to Ball co-writing some tracks for Matthews" solo album. Indie crooner Ed Harcourt also made an appearance, singing and playing Moog on "From The Country To The City".
