This show brought the celebrated director/choreographer Michael Bennett back to Broadway for the first time since he contributed so much to A Chorus Line (1975), one of the biggest ever hits of the musical theatre. Ballroom opened at the Majestic Theatre in New York, on 14 December 1978. The book was adapted by Jerome Kass from his own television movie, Queen Of The Stardust Ballroom, which had a music score by composer Billy Goldenberg, and lyrics by Alan And Marilyn Bergman. The trio remained on board for Ballroom, and added some new songs.
