Dakota Moon
An R&B group influenced more by 70s soft rock than by modern urban music, Dakota Moon comprises Ty Taylor (guitar/vocals), M Malloy (drums/vocals), Ray Artis (bass/vocals), and Joe Dean (guitar/vocals). With its members originating from various parts of the USA, the group initially came together in Los Angeles during the late 90s while working with producer (and former Motown Records recording artist) Andrew Logan. A recording contract with Elektra Records soon came their way after they began playing Los Angeles clubs, with the quartet even landing a slot supporting Tina Turner in 1997 despite not yet having an album released. Dakota Moon's excellent self-titled debut was issued a year after the Turner tour, with Logan handling the production. The band took several years to finish a sophomore effort, as 2002 saw the long overdue release of A Place To Land. The album featured a guest appearance from singer Corey Glover, a member of one of Dakota Moon's early influences, Living Colour.
