finetune artist: The Outhere Brothers

This rap duo from Chicago, Illinois, USA featured singer and lyricist Malik and producer Hula. Malik previously wrote the lyrics to Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince's worldwide hit, "Boom Boom Shake The Room". He had also been a member of another crew, Lidell Townsell And M.T.F., who had a US Top 30 hit with "Nu Nu". He agreed to work with Hula through a mutual Jazzy Jeff connection. Hula produced the rapper/DJ team's Grammy award-winning platinum single, "Summertime". They were originally joined by two other members, who promptly disappeared on their first trip to Europe. As the Outhere Brothers they enjoyed considerable success first with "Pass The Toilet Paper" then two UK number 1 singles, "Don't Stop (Wiggle Wiggle)" and "Boom Boom Boom". The latter stayed at the top of the charts for several weeks in 1995, and featured a memorable video of the two Chicago Bulls fans playing basketball. Both singles were big sellers in Europe, despite a near absence of mainstream radio play due to their risqu lyrical contents. In April 1995, the duo were investigated by New Scotland Yard following a justified complaint from a Bradford mother that the album, purchased by her 10-year-old daughter, was obscene, especially deliberately provocative titles such as "I'll Lick Your Pussy" and "Fuk U In The Ass". At the same time further complaints were received about the lyrics of a bonus track on their irritating number 1 hit, "Don't Stop (Wiggle Wiggle)". Two further singles, "La La La Hey Hey" and "If You Wanna Party", appeared in the UK Top 10 before 1995 ended. The duo continued to enjoy club hits with tracks such as "Lad De Da De Da De (We Like To Party)" and "Ae-Ah" but the repetitive nature of their work indicated a short commercial life, with thousands of parents doubtless breathing a sigh of relief.
