Conjunto Primavera
Formed on 21 March 1978 in Chihuahua, Mexico, this band was founded by locally born saxophonist Juan Dom¡nguez. Members of the band, most also originating in the same region, included Juan Antonio "Tony" Mel‚ndez (vocals), F‚lix Antonio Contreras (accordion/keyboards), Oscar Ochoa (electric bass), Manuel Rolando P‚rez (bass) and, at different times, Daniel Martinez and Adri n Regalado (percussion). The band made its first album in 1981 and although their early style owed much to the local region, they soon began appealing to a wider audience throughout Mexico and in the Spanish-speaking regions of the southern USA. Noted as purveyors of norte¤o dance music, cumbia and ranchera, among the songs in Conjunto Primavera's repertoire in its early years were "Sufro Por Ti", "Borracho Y Loco", "No Supo Comprenderme", "Amor Fingido" and "El Corrido Del Chore". Over the years, the band has had various successes including at least three gold discs, the platinum-selling Necesito Decirte (1998), a 2002 BDS Certified Spin Award for "No Te Pod¡as Quedar', a Latin Hot Tracks Billboard placing, as well as Billboard"s Regional Mexican Album Of The Year Male Group in 2002, and a Latin Grammy, for "A£n Sigues Siendo M¡a', which won 2006"s Mejor Canci¢n Del A¤o (Best Song Of The Year).
