The Blues Project
The Blues Project was formed in New York, USA in the mid-60s by guitarist Danny Kalb, and took its name from a compendium of acoustic musicians with whom he played. Tommy Flanders (vocals), Steve Katz (b. 9 May 1945, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA; guitar), Andy Kulberg (b. Buffalo, New York, USA; bass, flute), Roy Blumenfeld (drums), plus Kalb, were latterly joined by Al Kooper (b. 5 February 1944, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA; vocals, keyboards), fresh from adding the distinctive organ on Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone". The sextet was quickly established as the city's leading electric blues band, a prowess demonstrated on their debut album, Live At the Cafe Au-Go-Go.
