Dale Watson
b. 7 October 1962, Birmingham, Alabama, USA. An old-fashioned honky tonk performer of the traditional variety, Dale Watson made a major impact in 1995 with the release of his Cheatin' Heart Attack debut set for HighTone Records. Growing up in Alabama, he had been introduced to country music by his marine father who ran a small band. His father even released a single, "Poor Baby', in the late 60s for Chaparral Records. When the family relocated to Pasadena, Texas, Watson began to learn ukulele, then guitar. Together with brothers Jim, who taught him the guitar, and Donny, he formed the Classic Country Band. They worked together for a year before Dale elected to set out on his own. However, he soon tired of playing other artists" material and moved once again to Los Angeles in 1988. There he met John Jorgenson of the Desert Rose Band, who helped to secure Watson a recording contract with Curb Records. He released "You Pour It On And I Pour It Down", before the contract collapsed. Watson's problems were then exacerbated by his involvement in a serious car crash.
