Bill Kirchen
b. 29 January 1948, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. Kirchen grew up with a love of various forms of American music - country, blues, western swing and rockabilly - and this has proved invaluable over the years. He was a founder member of Commander Cody And The Lost Planet Airmen in 1967 and he sang and played guitar with the group until 1976. With his Telecaster guitar, he could emulate the hard country twang of the Bakersfield acts, Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, and although Commander Cody And The Lost Planet Airmen was regarded as a psychedelic band, much of it was country music played by hippies. "Lack of discipline sunk the band in the end," he confides.
