Jeff Mills
Born and bred in the heart of one of America's electronica epicenters, DJ Jeff Mills was a crucial figure in the development of Detroit's techno scene. Mills's work favors the stripped-down, minimal style characteristic of Detroit techno, but also shows an affinity for industrial and house. In the mid 1980s Mills helped found the now-famous Underground Resistance organization (which boasted a record label and artist roster that reflected the up-and-coming wave of Detroit techno). In 1992, Mills moved to New York where he held a residency at the Limelight Club, signing a record contract with the German label Tresor. In addition to live DJing and production, Mills's work includes several 12" EPs, collaborations with the likes of Robert Hood, film soundtracks (a score to Fritz Lang's METROPOLIS), and the albums TRANSMISSIONS, EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY, and CHOICE: A COLLECTION OF CLASSICS, among others.
