B12
Based in Ilford, Essex, England, B12 consist of Michael Golding (a computer expert) and Steven Rutter (a bank employee). Single releases prior to their album for Warp Records were credited to alter egos Red Cell and Musicology and released on their own B12 label. Another pseudonym is C-Metric. When Electro Soma arrived as the fourth instalment in Warp's Artificial Intelligence series, it made a good impression. The intention was to try to create the feel of pure, timeless techno: "Derrick May, Juan Atkins and the rest of the guys started something that I suppose we feel obliged to continue." However, as they were keen to point out, this was hardly conventional dance music: "I don't believe anyone's ever played it in a club."
