Debbie Davies
b. Los Angeles, California, USA. Davies had her first guitar at the age of 12 and when Bluesbreakers With Eric Clapton, was released in 1965, she set out to memorize all of Clapton's solos. Intrigued by the names of black blues artists mentioned in his interviews, she discovered the records of Freddie King, Otis Rush and Gatemouth Brown. Her first live gigs were in a club in a northern California college town, where she was able to witness Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Etta James and Albert Collins in action. After playing in several bar bands, she returned to Los Angeles and auditioned for Maggie Mayall And The Cadillacs, an all-female R&B band that often opened for Maggie's husband John Mayall. Davies met Albert Collins while playing local gigs with Bluesbreaker Coco Montoya. He invited her to sit in at the San Francisco Blues Festival and later offered her a gig with his band. After three years, she left to tour with Jimmy Buffet's harmonica player, Fingers Taylor, before forming her own band. Collins guests on one track of her debut album, which also pays tribute to influences such as Freddie and Albert King. The follow-up Loose Tonight contained more original material, with ample space for her fluent lead guitar. Davies is a confident writer and performer in a field that contains few to equal her.
