The Grifters
Comprising Dave Shouse (guitar, vocals), Scott Taylor (guitar, vocals), Tripp Lamkins (bass) and Stan Gallimore (drums), savage alternative rock band the Grifters were originally known as A Band Called Bud, recording a self-released cassette in 1989. Changing their name to the Grifters they recorded the following year's Disfigurehead EP for Doink Records. From Memphis, Tennessee, USA, their recording career soon involved them with numerous small labels before they signed with Sub Pop Records at the end of 1995. By that time they had established a considerable reputation for their skewered narratives and intelligent songwriting. After finally being able to give up their day jobs, the Grifters recorded their Sub Pop album debut, Ain't My Lookout, released in February 1996. It was preceded by a double a-side single, "Last Man Alive"/"Parting Shot", in January. Shouse has subsequently devoted most of his time to his side project, Those Bastard Souls.
