Electric Company
Multi-instrumentalist Brad Laner (b. 6 November 1966, Los Angeles, California, USA) has been making music since the early 80s, and has served as the leader for cult alt-rock acts such as Debt Of Nature, Streaming Coils, and probably his best known band, Medicine. Medicine issued three critically acclaimed but commercially underachieving albums during the early 90s for the Def American label, before Laner left in 1995 to form Electric Company. The project proved to be more musically varied than its predecessor, as it drew from influences such as alternative rock, hip-hop and experimental techno. Since the mid-90s Electric Company has issued a steady stream of releases, the most notable of which are 1998's Studio City, 1999's Omakase and 2000's Exitos, the latter appearing on kindred spirit Kid 606's Tigerbeat label. As if Laner's schedule was not busy enough with Electric Company, he also fronts another band, Amnesia, and has guested on recordings by Mercury Rev and the Tool offshoot Lusk, among others. He revived Medicine to record a new studio album in 2003.
