Juliet Turner
b 16 July 1973, Omagh, Northern Ireland. It was while studying English and History at Dublin's Trinity College in the early 90s that Turner was discovered. By this time, she had a handful of fairly predictable songs that were roughly handled onto her debut Let's Hear It For Pizza, released before she had a barely discernible audience. From the mid-90s onwards, however, Turner began to gain an ever-increasing fanbase. Her public profile was upped considerably when she sang at the Omagh Service tribute concert in 1998, where her corkscrew-in-the-heart rendition of US folk/bluegrass artist Julie Miller's "Broken Things" almost made everyone lose their composure. Following this, record companies started calling, but she refused to sign a recording contract until she was certain she was being offered one for the right reasons.
