Alias
Comprising ex-members of Heart in Roger Fisher (b. 14 February 1950; guitar), Steve Fossen (b. 15 November 1949; bass) and Michael Derosier (b. 24 August 1951, Canada; drums) and a posse of ex-Sherriff men, Freddy Curci (vocals) and Steve De Marchi (keyboards), Alias were a largely unheralded supergroup when their debut was released in 1990. Under the production wing of Rick Neigher (ex-Avalon) and with songs penned mainly by the band, with some input from outside writers such as Jeff Paris and Fee Waybill (ex-Tubes), they made an immediate impact in the US charts, enjoying hit singles with "Waiting For Love" and "More Than Words Can Say". Featuring the distinctive vocal style of Curci, Alias bore similarities to both bands from which membership had been drawn, as well as the most successful AOR bands of the 80s, Journey and Foreigner. Commercial success was not enough, however, to ensure a second album, and in 1994 Curci returned with a solo album, Dreamer's Road, on EMI Records, which marked a disappointing move away from his rock roots to a smooth and sophisticated balladic approach.
