Daddy Dewdrop was a pseudonym for Richard Monda (b. Cleveland, Ohio, USA), who was employed as a songwriter for the USA cartoon television series Sabrina And The Groovy Ghoulies. He had already released unsuccessful singles for Verve Records and the small Moonglow label when he decided to record his own version of a song (written by Janis Lee Guinn and Linda Martin) that had been used on the show, "Chick-A-Boom (Don't Ya Jes' Love It)". It was a bubblegum novelty number and Monda assembled a group of session musicians for the recording, which he called the Torrance Cookers. The single, on Sunflower Records, reached number 9 in 1971 but subsequent releases under the Daddy Dewdrop name failed to chart.
