Wreckx-N-Effect
With their Teddy Riley-produced single of the same name in 1988, this US vocal group announced the arrival of New Jack Swing, or swingbeat. Formed by Markell Riley (Teddy's brother), Brandon Mitchell (the Rileys' half-brother), and Aquil Davidson, the group's career was rocked by the death of Mitchell in a 1989 shooting. The intervening period was not especially kind in terms of commercial fortunes, with others capitalising on their style. However, Riley and Davidson did score a minor hit in 1992 with "Rump Shaker" for MCA Records. They were joined by UK artist Apache Indian on their 1994 single, "Wreckz Shop". The duo released one final album in 1996.
