b. 22 May 1966, Washington, DC, USA. Gill's expertly delivered soul vocal chords have been working since an early age. At the age of seven, he was singing with his three brothers in the gospel quartet the Wings Of Faith. His debut album was recorded when he was only 16. Following his meeting and subsequent recording with Stacy Lattisaw (Perfect Combination), she proffered his rough demo to Ahmet Ertegun at Atlantic Records, resulting in 1985's Chemistry. Although Gill failed to dent the charts he had built a considerable reputation with his voice, and replaced Bobby Brown in New Edition towards the end of their heyday, singing on their comeback hit "If It Isn't Love" in 1988. He reinvented himself once again, following a similar pattern: working with Lattisaw, followed by another self titled solo album, this time on Motown Records. The mix was favourable, having been produced by Jimmy Jam And Terry Lewis and L.A. And Babyface. The album was a major success and established him as a potential modern R&B giant, spawning a number of US hits including "Rub You The Right Way", "My My My" and "Fairweather Friend". Further success came as a featured vocalist with Shanice ("Silent Prayer") and Shabba Ranks ("Slow And Sexy"). "This Floor" kept Gill's profile alive in 1993, together with Provocative, but it was not until 1996 that a new solo album was released. In 1997 Gill joined with Gerald LeVert and Keith Sweat for the "soul supergroup" LSG.
