Directed by William Dieterle, this 1942 film offers a Hollywood eye-view of the story of jazz. Predictably, accuracy is a minor consideration but there are some nice musical moments from a band of winners of a poll held by the Saturday Evening Post, whose readers seem to have heard of Benny Goodman and a few other swing era musicians but very little else. Apart from Goodman there are Harry James, Jack Jenney, Charlie Barnet, Joe Venuti, Bob Haggart and Gene Krupa. Stan Wrightsman dubbed the soundtrack for Bonita Granville, Bunny Berigan for Jackie Cooper, and Rex Stewart for Todd Duncan.
