Vega began his professional career in 1978 as co-lead vocalist with Raphy Leavitt's band La Selecta. He departed to sing with Rosario's band for six years, between 1980 and 1986. On six of Rosario's albums, he shared lead vocals with Gilberto Santa Rosa. After leaving Rosario, Tony contributed vocals to Palmieri's fifth Grammy Award winner La Verdad/The Truth, and recorded with Ram¡rez.
