Dennis DeYoung
b. 18 February 1947, Chicago, Illinois, USA. DeYoung first made his reputation as the lead vocalist and keyboard player of Styx, before striking out on his own. His career began in 1963 as a member of the Tradewinds, which evolved into TW4 in 1968 and ultimately to Styx in 1970. The band became one of the major success stories of the 70s, with 11 albums charting (five in the Top 10). After the 1983 Styx album Kilroy Was Here, DeYoung recorded his first solo set, Desert Moon, for A&M Records. The title track became a US Top 10 single and was followed by three other chart singles and further solo albums, none of which repeated DeYoung's earlier success. He resumed working with Styx in 1990, but following growing disagreements with the rest of the band he was ousted from the line-up in 1999. He has continued to play the band's songs in his heavily theatrical stage show, which was captured for posterity on the 2004 live release The Music Of Styx. DeYoung, who had already staged a version of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame in 1997, made his acting debut in the 2005 feature The Perfect Man.
