The Brian Jonestown Massacre is best known to the general public for having been featured in the acclaimed 2004 documentary DIG!, which chronicled the contentious relationship between BJTM frontman Anton Newcombe and his former friend, Courtney Taylor-Taylor of the Dandy Warhols. The band, however, has been making swirling '60s psychedelic-inspired rock since the mid 1990s. Newcombe and his cohorts infuse their supremely melodic take on acid rock with a heavy dose of the caustic, which can be either alienating or inspiring, depending on how seriously one takes it. Newcombe started his own label, the Committee to Keep Music Evil, to release other bands fighting the same debauched good fight as BJTM.
