Arch Enemy
In common with many Swedish metal bands, the members of Arch Enemy brought strong pedigrees to the line-up. Vocalist and original bass player Johan Liiva (b. Johan Axelsson, 18 November 1970, Helsingborg, Sweden) had previously played in Carnage with guitarist Michael Amott (b. 28 July 1970, England), who had also enjoyed a spell with Carcass and played concurrently in the Spiritual Beggars. His younger brother and guitarist Christopher Amott (b. 23 November 1977, Halmstad, Sweden) and drummer Daniel Erlandsson (b. 22 May 1977, Sweden) completed the original line-up. Arch Enemy came together initially after Amott turned down an offer for a Carnage reunion shortly after the demise of Carcass. Black Earth, released on the Wrong Again label in 1996, was the result of much rehearsing and frantic recording sessions at the renowned Studio Fredman. The album, a post-Carcass blast of typically aggressive death metal, was made especially memorable by the inventive guitar work of the Amott brothers. It was particularly well received in Japan and the band undertook its first tour there with British doom outfit Cathedral before returning to Europe.

Um... that last comment was supposed to be metal hands, but the backslash got stripped.
