Trina
b. Katrina Laverne Taylor, 3 December 1978, Miami, Florida, USA. The hyper-sexualised, hyper-capitalist rapper Trina is, according to her album titles, "da baddest bitch" and a "diamond princess", and US magazine Entertainment Weekly has dubbed the former stripper the "new queen of randy hip-hop'. Trina is a prot‚g‚e of Trick Daddy and first achieved notoriety on his 1998 release, www.thug.com. On her own debut, 2000"s Da Baddest Bitch, Trina defined her fiscal limits for sex ("20 grand") and to make a movie ("100 grand"), as well as dedicating a song to her mother ("Mama"). The 2002 follow-up Diamond Princess featured notable guest appearances from Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, Ludacris, Tweet, Fabolous, and Eve. Trina compared "Ladies 1st", her collaboration with Eve, to a "Thelma and Louise-type thing". On the album's first single, "No Panties", Trina declared that she was not going to drop her underwear without appropriate financial recompense. Amusingly, Trina is reported to have once abandoned a recording session after her mother turned up unexpectedly: the rapper's mother was apparently appalled at the bad language spewing from her daughter's mouth.
