Yankee Grey
Formed by members of several rival Cincinnati, Ohio, USA-based bands, this new country outfit settled around a line-up of Tim Hunt (vocals/guitar), Joe Caverlee (b. 26 April 1968; fiddle/vocals), Matt Basford (b. 27 August 1962; guitar), Jerry Hughes (b. 9 December 1965; keyboards), Kevin Griffin (b. 22 March 1965; drums) and Dave Buchanan (b. 4 February 1966; bass/vocals). Various line-ups of the band, formed by Griffin and Basford, had been touring since the late 80s. Buchanan was another early recruit, and with the addition of Hunt they began tirelessly working the club circuit with a blend of cover versions and original material. Hughes and Caverlee were brought on board along the way. A four-track demo gained the band a deal with publishing company Smith Haven Music, and they were subsequently signed to the Sony imprint, Monument. Released in September 1999, their debut album was produced by Josh Leo and Robert Ellis Orrall. The single "All Things Considered", which gained extensive radio play on country stations, provided a fine taster for the album's dynamic hard rocking edge, earning the band glowing comparisons to Restless Heart and Alabama.
