King Kooba
This south London, England-based dance music production team comprises Charlie Tate and DJ Shuff (b. Matt Harris). They describe their music as "future funk' and it is a blend of 70s funk, soul, breakbeats, 60 film soundtracks and jazz. Tate was bass guitarist in the funk band the Big Cheese Allstars and worked with artists such as Neneh Cherry and Howie B. before forming King Kooba. Harris worked as a DJ and club promoter but is also a skilled studio technician. Their albums and EPs have been warmly received by the mainstream dance music press, especially 2000"s Nufoundfunk. The pair have developed a live dimension to their sound, using electronics alongside live guitars, drums and vocals.
