J.J. Jackson
b. Jerome Louis Jackson, 8 April 1941, Bronx, New York City, New York, USA. Soul performer Jackson first attracted attention as an arranger for jazz organist Brother Jack McDuff and blues singer Jimmy Witherspoon. He subsequently formed a songwriting partnership with Sid Barnes and enjoyed success with compositions for Inez And Charlie Foxx and Mary Wells. Jackson's performing career began in earnest in 1966. The ebullient dance hit "But It's Alright" was recorded in London with a backing band which featured saxophonists Dick Morrissey and John Marshall. Subsequent releases included the energetic "Come See Me", later recorded by the Pretty Things, as well as a cover version of Robbie Robertson's "The Stones I Throw".
